Introduction to Personality
Every person has a personality. An souls personality is what molds the individual. The purpose of this paper is to define personality, reckon theoretical approaches in studying personality, and to analyze factors that may govern an individuals personality development. The word personality originated from the Latin persona, which referred to a theatrical cover worn by Roman actors in Greek dramas (Feist & Feist, 2009). Actors from ancient Rome wore mask to project a role or false mien (Feist & Feist, 2009). However in todays advance(a) society, personality has to do more with observed looks and not mask. Personality development has incompatible theorist completing assessment to define the theory of personality development.
Personality Defined
Personality is defined as the totality of qualities and signs, as of character or behavior which are peculiar to a specific person (Personality, 2011). Traits contribute to individual differences in behavior, consistency of behavior over time, and stability of behavior across situations (Feist & Feist, 2009).



An individual may share almost of his or her traits with other family members, or he or she may give up traits that are unique. The pattern of an individuals trait is different for each individual. Characteristics are unique qualities of an individual which take such attributes as temperament, physique, and intelligence (Feist & Feist, 2009). An individuals characteristics may be the color of the individuals eyes, his or her skin color, his or her height, and other attributes inherited through genetics. Although traits and characteristics have been considered the main contributor to an individuals personality, psychologists have attributed different theoretical approaches in the study of personality.
