The principal appointment in this story is the culture conflict Mars Dutta faces in America. Mrs. Dutta is an old, widowed Indian that has always been in India and after so many years going to America the whole foeman of her usual customs.

I think yes, for the reason that she struggles to fit in the whole newfound American customs and also with her inner emotions, feelings toward the whole American perspective.
