In Robert Brownings poetry My Last Duchess, a dramatic monologue, the author offers us a mind frame of picturing a man of reigning and jealous qualities whose main goal in life seems to be to towards controlling others. The Duke, who is not truly Browning, but a figure of persona or fictitious voice, attempts to show his worth, partially through and through his claim that nobody can deceive him. What is ironically is that he really actually starts to show how unworthy he really is, through the way he deceives himself. Additionally, in the beginning the Duke is discussing to a mediator on behalf of a very important person, expect to clarify the details of an arranged marriage, whom we eventually gather is a sort of envoy from a certain Count whose young woman the Duke will marry. In other words, she will become his bordering duchess. As the poem carries on early in the poem, the audition get the vibe that the Duke questioned his relationship with the Duchess in the portrait. It is at this blink of an eye in the poem that the Duke begins to tell the reasons he did not self-assertion his ex-wife.
His attitude towards the duchess was quite absurd here in this example, The bough of cherries slightly officious fool Broke in the orchard for her, the sportsmanlike mule She rode with round the terrace -- all and each would crotchet from her alike the approving speech, Or blush, at least. As it shows, it is obvious to see that the Duke has listed many flaws of the Duchess, with his strong ego sentiment that she hasnt quite made the cut in hurt of being his next wife.
In conclusion, the Duke believes that his ex-wife was not loyal bountiful and did not meet the standards of a Duchess. Therefore, he had his wife murdered.
