electronic medical records (EMR) are a computerized legal medical record that is created in a hospital or rectifys office. They are a part of a local stand- al iodin health information placement that allows for storage, retrieval and management of records (Wikipedia, 2010). They affiliation all facilities together such as dental, medical, and vision into one accessible record. They are sometimes referred to as electronic health records (HER), but these two are a little different. The doctor or hospital has control of the electronic medical records, where the patient of has access to the electronic health records.
Some may ask, why do I need electronic medical records? To conclude that question we look at what it takes for a paper system in a healthcare environment. It takes a lot of set to store files from a practice or hospital.



This requires extra blank when one area is filled and more employees to handle the torrent of paper. When you have different areas storing files at umpteen different locations it takes a lot of money and personnel to handle faxing, coping, and transporting files. When this system is use it starts to be a tremendous time saver in all areas of the office.
